Bildlich gesprochen kann man sich vorstellen, dass der Kurs während des halben Jahres "offen" war. Indem man den Kurs beendet hat, hat man ihn "geschlossen" oder "abgeschlossen", ein wenig wie eine Tür.
Wie kann ich mich bewerben?
Für deutsche Bewerber/innen mit ausländischen Vorbildungsnachweisen (z. B. ausländisches Abitur, Baccalaureate Diploma) gelten besondere Regelungen. Die Bescheinigung muss das Datum des Erwerbs der Hochschulzugangsberechtigung sowie die einem deutschen Reifezeugnis entsprechende allgemeine und/oder besondere Durchschnittsnote beinhalten. Dass es sich um einen Begriff der Fachsprache handelt ist unstrittig, deren Kenntnis kann man aber bei einem Abiturienten vermutlich nicht zwingend voraussetzen (es sei denn, die Lehrpläne hätten sich in diese Richtung deutlich erweitert). Da der Begriff auch fachsprachlich mehrdeutig ist (Philosophie),ist die zusätzliche Erläuterung ohnehin geboten, und dann bringt der Fachbegriff gegenüber der deutschen Entsprechung keinen zusätzlichen Erkenntnisgewinn. Die Bescheinigung kann im Regierungspräsidium Stuttgart oder einer anderen zuständigen Stelle aus einem anderen Bundesland beantragt werden. Zuständig für die Bewertung ist das Bundesland, in dem sich der Wohnsitz der Antragstellerin/des Antragstellers befindet.

Wenn ich a/Allgemeine Hochschulreife schreibe, meine ich damit die fachsprachliche Ausformulierung von „Abitur“, möchte also nicht die erworbene Hochschulreife näher beschreiben (als allgemein, in Abgrenzung zu einer spezifischen Hochschulreife). Ich halte Zusammenfassung für eine ziemlich genaue Übersetzung von abstract, was auch von von den Förderverein Dr.-Frank-Gymnasium Verwendungsbeispielen bei Pons gestützt wird.
