Assetto Corsa – flagship of car simulators

Few of us heard about the new Assetto Corsa racing simulator, which appeared a few months ago in Steam Early Accesses. And this is not surprising. Against the background of Gran Turismo 6 and Project Cars, our guest today looks very faded. Assetto Corsa cannot boast of sophisticated graphics or a large fleet, but it has something that is much more important for a car symbolic.

Kunos Simulazioni

The game is developed by an independent and relatively young studio – Kunos Simulazioni. Their first game was Netkar Pro. You are likely to hear this name for the first time, but in the circle of fans of car symbolic this project for a long time was a cult. The next game was the Maral Hillclimb Simulator, which was based on the technology and graphic engine Netkar Pro and included only one formula car for several tracks. A little later, the light saw Trofeo Abarth 500, which differs from the previous game only an accessible car-now it was a charged Fiat 500 from the ABARTH tuning studio.

In 2010, Kunos Simulazioni signed a partnership agreement with Ferrari to create Ferrari Virtual Academy. A game with an excellent physical model, one should not expect another from Kunos Simulazioni, was ruined by a small number of cars and the complete absence of an advertising company. Encouraged by flattering reviews of the Simmiresers, Kunos Simulazioni at the end of 2011 announced the start of work on their second serious project – Assetto Corsa.

Physical model

Today, Assetto Corsa has one of the most worked out and reliable physical models among car systems. The fact that all the tracks presented in the game were modeled by laser scanning of the real routes, says a lot. Everything affects the behavior of the car on the highway – from pits, joints and cracks on the asphalt, to cuts, the quality of which can vary very much, even within one track. Even the quality of asphalt itself affects the adhesion to asphalt. Often on the track, pieces of old and new coating are simultaneously adjacent, sometimes alternating with small patches. The older the coating on which we are driving, the less the clutch coefficient. It becomes much more difficult to drive because of this feature, but at the same time it is more interesting. It often happens that we start a turn on one coating, and we finish on the other. They did not calculate the speed or not correctly chose the trajectory, and our car rushes to meet the chipper cheerfully. In addition, do not forget that the ideal trajectory of turning the turn has long been shut up and the clutch on it will be tangibly worse. Because of this, we will have to constantly look for a compromise between the passage of turning along the ideal trajectory and the trajectory with the greatest clutch. But unlike Project Cars on Assetto Corsa tracks, you will never have the feeling that you are driving on ice. There is exactly as much clutch here as it is necessary for a pleasant, and most importantly, controlled driving at the limit.

The car on the track is felt by a living creature with its disposition, and sometimes by will. Not least due to excellent work of the suspension. The rolls during braking and acceleration, swinging in corners, breakdowns of the rear or front axle from the trajectory are made very realistically and predictably. If you play the steering wheel, then appreciate excellent feedback (FFB). Unfortunately, the ride on the gamepad does not stand out against the background of the rudders – vibrates when hitting on irregularities, is a little shocked in turns and when losing its adhesion. In general, as in any other racing game.

Game modes

At the moment, we have www.rush-casino.co.uk access to three groups of races: practice, testing and race. In practice, as the name implies, we are free to choose any track, any car, configure the time of day and temperature. There are no nights and cloudy weather yet, the developers promise to add this content only after the release.

Tests are divided into “fast circle”, “special events”, “time attack” and “drift”.
Fast circle: the only differences from practice is the presence of fines for driving along the grass and the ability to turn on the ghost of the car with your best time in this race.

Special event: a set of tasks with accelerations for their passage is to drive a circle faster than the specified time, come first in a drag or ring race, to dift a certain amount of points for drift for a limited time. That’s all that this regime pamper us. Time attack: it comes down to the race through checkpoints, on which we are given extra time and glasses that can take away the grass for riding. The difficulty lies in the fact that at each next control point of time and glasses they give less. The goal is to drive as many circles as possible, scoring as many points as possible. Drift: for the allotted time, type as many points as possible at a special training ground.

Races are carried out in two categories: ring and driving. We choose how many and what cars will be our rivals (the maximum number is limited only by the number of boxes on the highway) and indicate their strength – how aggressively they will drive. The artificial intelligence of the bots is still in its infancy. They stubbornly do not notice the player’s car, the ram of it at any opportunity. And a huge accident in the first turn is a completely common thing. But with their shortcomings to travel with them fascinating. In addition, you should not neglect such training – in the multiplayer everything will be much worse.

Of course, the Assetto Corsa will have a multiplayer, but when is a big question. Definitely he will come out before the release, but no one can give more accurate information.

Cars

There are already plenty of pains at this stage – civic low -profiles, supercars, racing cars and Open Wheel. Total – 23 pieces. Almost all cars have several upgrades that differ in engine power and suspension settings. There is no custom -made pumping in the manner of Gran Turismo and Need for Speed, and is not planned. To understand the level of study of cars, it should be mentioned that Pagani Huayra has a dynamically changing aerodynamics of 4 mobile elements. Currently, a physical and mathematical model is being developed for her, which will take into account 16 (!) the provisions of these mobile elements. I think comments here are unnecessary. The car, unfortunately, will be added to the game only after the release.

Currently, Kunos Simulazioni is working on Ferrari Laferrari, a racing version of Ferrari 458 Italia, the aforementioned Pagani Huayra, McLaren P1 and several Japanese cars, including the Nissan GT-R G35 and its racing version.

Tracks and applications

Everything is fine with the tracks – 9 tracks, including historical Monza, one drifting landfill and one long straight line for carrying out draas races. This, of course, is far from the final numbers. By the time Kynos release, they promise to add several more tracks and cars. It is known that the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps and Mallory Park-oval 2.1 km track will appear among the tracks. They will be added to the game in a free patch at the end of summer. Unfortunately, Nordschleife – Nürburgring will be available only in a paid addition, which, in addition to the track, will include 10 cars that users will choose.

But not only DLC will live as Assetto Corsa. After the release, the developers promise to give complete space for creativity to models. The game, for the convenience of interacting with tracks and cars, will support the workshop of Steam. The release is still far away, but now skins for cars, applications and routes transferred from other games are beginning to appear.
The developers understand everything that we see on the screen during the race: speed, transmission, circle time, rivals, tire temperatures, etc.D. Assetto Corsa has a great many of these applications and they are all customizable! Each window can be placed anywhere on the screen, the main thing is that they do not overlap each other.

Unlike other automobile simulators, the main Assetto Corsa menu is not overloaded with excess information. Everything is strict, concise, and, as they say, in the case. We observe exactly the same picture in the car settings menu in front of the race. All settings are divided into categories and are accompanied by detailed explanations. It is immediately clear that the design was developed taking into account the general public. It is not difficult for beginners to understand the basics of gaming mechanics. And after two or three evenings of training you can learn several tracks and start showing a stable circle time. But, as in any other car symbolic, for quick driving you will have to read a lot of third -party literature and spend months getting used to cars and the features of a track.
